Former Rangiora Police Station Demolition Blog 1

Week Ending 17.01.25

The former Rangiora Police Station has been sitting vacant for 6 years after being deemed unfit for use in 2019.

To make better use of this site, the Waimakariri District Council engaged the Scope team to complete the demolition of the building to facilitate the construction of a much-needed car parking area for the ever-growing Rangiora community.

With 2 operators and a driver working seamlessly together, our team have made great progress on the demolition. We started by removing salvageable items from the building and clearing the site to enable unrestricted access for our excavators to set to work.

With a high focus on minimising disruption for surrounding neighbours, our team commenced demolition which involved methodically processing their way through the building, from west to east, working within the building footprint in a controlled manner. To maximise all opportunities to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill, our team meticulously separated all polystyrene from the concrete precast walls so the concrete could be crushed for reuse.

The two concrete precast walls positioned hard against the site boundaries have remained in place during demolition. These walls have acted as physical safeguards for neighbouring properties as well as a noise barrier to keep disruption to a minimum.

Next week our focus will be to demolish the remaining structure and removing the concrete foundation.

Well done to the team on site for working efficiently and safely on this exciting project.
