Tuakana Hostel Project Update 7

Week Ending 01.12.24

The weeks are flying by, and Christmas is just around the corner! The Napier based team are working hard on the Tuakana Hostel project, continuously adapting to their working environment and implementing clever initiatives to work smarter and maximise safety.

Wearing asbestos personal protective clothing and masks is not for the faint hearted, especially when working in intense heat. Our team have implemented regular hydration, and sunblock breaks to prevent heat stroke, dehydration and sunburn.

The team have also modified the split team system, which has been in operation for the past few weeks. This system has proved to be a very successful method of delivering the project requirements although was no longer fit for purpose now that the team are working outside in the elements. The modification involved splitting the team by time rather than resource. The team now work as a whole on the external Class B works until 11.00am then relocate to the basement works for the rest of the day to escape the heat. This system ensures we maintain project deliverables and protect the welfare of our staff.

The team loaded out another 30 bundles of asbestos waste from site this week! Well done to the Scope team for maintaining momentum, your hard work is paying off.
