ASBESTOS REMOVAL & DEMOLITION
At 58 YMCA Road, Māhia

Project Type
Asbestos & Demolition

Location
Māhia

Completion Date
2024

The Scope team were excited to work with our long-standing client, LINZ to complete the asbestos and demolition works at 58 YMCA Road, Māhia. The land and properties were gifted to the local Iwi as part of the settlement redress with the intention of bringing them back to life to be utilised by the Iwi.

We were engaged to remove all asbestos from the buildings to facilitate the renovation work which included the removal of asbestos wall linings, cladding, soffits and switchboard.

Due to years of being unoccupied, the condition of the buildings had deteriorated, and in some cases were beyond the point of repair and required demolition. Being a one stop shop we were able to complete the demolition of these buildings whilst onsite removing the asbestos. We diverted all concrete demolition waste from landfill by repurposing on local farm tracks and all scrap steel was salvaged and sent to the recyclers.

Following the asbestos removal on the cottage, we engaged a local subcontractor to complete the installation of the windows to make the building weather tight.

Our multiple divisions worked seamlessly together to streamline the process for our client. The remote site was located on the east of coast of the North Island and over 1.5 hours away from the nearest town, Gisborne. We successfully planned ahead to ensure we had all resources onsite to carry out the work without disruption.
