BECKS BAY

DEMOLITION & DECONSTRUCTION
AT BECKS BAY

Project Type
Demolition & Deconstruction

Location
Becks Bay

Completion Date
24 June 2024

The Scope Team quickly responded to this fire damaged property in Becks Bay in the stunning Marlborough Sounds. As the fire quickly consumed the house the intense heat from the flames caused the cladding to begin exploding! The asbestos soffits and cladding on the rear of the house contaminated the house as the fire spread.

It was very difficult for the assessor to accurately determine the extent of the asbestos contamination; it was therefore declared for the building to be demolished under Class B conditions and all waste treated as asbestos contaminated.

The only road access to the property is down a tight, steep and winding driveway which prevented access to any vehicles or machinery larger than a 4wd. We thought outside the box to determine how else to tackle this project and decided to make use of the barge to access the site with all required plant and equipment.

Using the barge had its own challenges, the barge could only access the site during low tide to prevent the potential of becoming beached as the tides changed. Being dictated by the low tide at times, required the committed Scope Team to be onsite at 3.00am to assist! With this in mind and the barge company’s own schedule to keep we had to make barge bookings and stick to them, there was no flexibility with the project programme.

The Scope team worked diligently in the rain to get this project completed, meeting all project targets with a great result.
