CLIENT: Christchurch City Council
PROJECT: 31 Nayland St
JOB TYPE: Asbestos Removal
Scope was appointed to undertake asbestos removal from the dwelling at 31 Nayland Street for Christchurch City Council. This included roof removal and environmental cleaning within the roof space.
A scaffold was erected as edge protection and the team worked with harnesses in fall arrest due to the steep roof pitch. Third-party independent air monitoring was running throughout the roof removal to ensure the safety of the neighbours and nearby building sites. All areas were swab tested and third-party independent validation was undertaken by TriEx Ltd upon completion of removal works.
During the subsequent demolition of the building, further asbestos contamination was uncovered in the soils across the site. TriEx Ltd took soil samples which indicated that there was a historic widespread asbestos contamination on the site.
We developed strategic methodologies to ensure we maintained Asbestos Health and Safety requirements as well as the most practical and cost-effective result for the client.
We were required to work very closely with TriEX and CCC throughout this project. On going site reporting including details of what was to be undertaken and how the risks were being managed was essential and provided to all neighbours and general public in the area.
